Vacation!

Scripture of the day: "Jesus replied, 'What is impossible with men is possible with God.' " -Luke 18:27

I just thought this picture was so funny!

I am so thankful for Hubby's vacation next week. It is much needed. He has been working so hard lately. Friday he has inventory and then he works Saturday. After that, we are home free. We are not going anywhere our of town. We are having a stay-cation. We're staying at home and enjoying the "local stuff".

We are going to take the kids to the pool, beach, zoo, and park. We are going to have picnics and cookouts on the grill. It's gonna be so much fun!

We haven't had a vacation in a few years now. We actually haven't been somewhere for vacation since our honeymoon 7 years ago. We are just thrilled to have this time together. I do have to work 3 of the days, but Hubby will take Bear someplace special...just the two of them.

Hubby and I plan on having a date night since we didn't get to have dinner for our anniversary. I am excited and can't wait to hav efun with my family.

Do you have a favorite vacation memory? Do you go on vacation or have a stay-cation?

Either way I hope everyone has a great week. I may be too busy having fun to blog, but I will try my best :)

Kristy

Oh, What a night!

Scripture of the day: "My lover is mine, and I am his." -Song of Solomon 2:16

Wow! Hubby had so many surprises for me yesterday on our anniversary. He really did a great job. I cannot thank him enough for everything. He surprised me with tickets to see Rascal Flatts! Not only that, they were 2nd row seats!! We could see everything. We had a blast. We are both extremely exhausted today. We didn't get home until 1:30 in the morning! Hubby gets up for work at 5:30am!

Although we are both running on fumes, I wouldn't have any other way. Rascal Flatts is my favorite country music band. Even though Hubby and I listen to mostly christian rock music, we are not that strict about it. We love country music and some old rock songs.

It did, however, take us two hours to get there and two hours to get home. Normally it would take about 2 hours round trip. Oh well, God fave us some time to just sit and talk. It was such an amazing day spent with my amazing husband.

The week's menu:
  • Monday- hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill
  • Tuesday- fend for yourself since Hubby won't be home to eat with us :(
  • Wednesday- rotisserie chicken, mashed potatoes, corn, and salad
  • Thursday- chicken and cheese casserole
  • Friday- eating at my mom's house
  • Saturday- BBQ chicken with grilled veggies
  • Sunday- crockpot hashbrown casserole with salad
Recipe of the week:
  • Mini melty cheeseburgers
What you will need:
1 lb. ground beef
dash of Worcestershire sauce
fresh basil and/or parsley, chopped
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
bacon bits, if desired

Instructions:
1. Mix all ingredients together just until blended. Mold into silver dollar sized patties.
2. Grill to your satisfaction (I like mine with no pink). Serve on a bun with whatever condiments you like.

Picture of the week:

Me and my gang...haha...a little Rascal Flatts humor!

Activities for the week:
  • Hubby works late all week so I will be staying home most of the days.
  • Friday I will go to my mom's house for dinner with the kids since Hubby works so late.
  • Saturday I may go visit Hubby's parents with the kids since he works again.
  • Sunday is the 1st day of Hubby's vacation! Yay! Church and then relaxation!!!

Happy 7th Anniversary

Scripture of the day: "Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— for your love is more delightful than wine." -Song of Solomon 1:2

Today is my 7th wedding anniversary with Hubby. These have been the best 7 years of my life. Thank you so much for loving me and the children so much. You are a true man of God and I love you with all my heart.

Here's to many, many more happy, wonderful years being married to the man of my dreams. Thank you God for blessing me with him!

God Bless,

P.S. Happy Father's Day to my amazing husband! You are such a great daddy to our boys!

Father's Day

Scripture of the day: "Better a little with righteousness than much gain with injustice." -Proverbs 16:8

Hubby cuddling with Ducky only 1 hour old...so precious

Father's Day is this Sunday and I would just like to honor my Hubby. He is such a good daddy to our boys. He loves to spend time with them and play with them. He hates going to work only because he has to leave them. Both boys cry for him while he's at work. On the weekends, Hubby spends as much time as possible with the children so he can soak up their love to get through another week. We love you hunny and wish you the Happiest Father's Day ever!!!!

Hubby taking Bear for a ride on the mower

Here are a few things I came across this week. I got an email from TOS magazine and one of the email authors wrote this for their entry this week:
  1. Does your man love God? Be thankful- many do not
  2. Does he love you? Be thankful- many men never show it
  3. Is he committed to you? Be thankful- many men wander
  4. Does he love the children? Be thankful- many men couldn't care less
  5. Is he strong in his convictions? Be thankful- many men waver
Think about these questions. If your man is all of these things...BE THANKFUL! So many men are unattached to their families, show no love, don't spend time with them, are lazy, and angry. I love my man because he is all of these things and more.

Here is a list of a few things that don't cost much to do for your man for Father's Day to make him feel special:
  • Begin the day with a favorite hearty breakfast
  • Give him lots of smiles
  • Give him a shoulder rub
  • Whisper "I'm so glad our children have your for a dad"
  • Let dad decide what to eat for lunch/dinner...no complaints
  • Make his favorite dessert
  • Watch his favorite movie after the kids go to bed
  • Get the kids to make him a picture and write down what they like to do with daddy...have it framed
I hope you all treat your husband's well this Sunday. They are our gift from God and they work hard for us.

Kristy

When Sparrows Fall

Meg Moseley's debut novel When Sparrows Fall is a great read! I could not put this book down. It was different, exciting, and gripping. Meg Moseley is a homeschool mom of three children. She has lived all over the country and just celebrated the high school graduation of her last child in 2009. You can read more about the author at HERE.

This wonderful novel takes you on a journey to the mountains of Georgia. A widow named Miranda Hanford lives alone with her six children whom she homeschools. She is involved in her local church with much hesitation. When Miranda learns from her pastor that he is moving and expects the entire church congregation to move as well, she is devastated. Her church is very "cultish" and she feels that she cannot leave because she and her late husband have secrets that the pastor knows about. If the authorities found any of these secrets out, she could have her children taken away.

When an unexpected accident happens and Miranda finds herself in the hospital, her long lost brother-in-law, Jack Hanford, comes to the rescue of her children. She names him guardian of her children until she gets well enough to take over.

Their journey together will keep you turning the pages. "Freedom. Safety. Love. Miranda vows to reclaim them-for herself, and for her children." -Quote from the back of the book.

You will be surprised and shocked at some of the practices of the church represented in this book. It will leave you feeling so sorry for Miranda and her family. But keep reading because Miranda becomes very brave and conquers her fears head on. This is a must-read!

I got nothing...

Scripture of the day: "Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights." -Habakkuk 3: 17-19

Nothing much going on today. I will get straight into my homemaking post.

This week's menu:
  • Monday- spaghetti, salad, french bread
  • Tuesday- leftovers
  • Wednesday- cheesy beef and macaroni and salad
  • Thursday- subs and salad
  • Friday- pizza
  • Saturday- cookout with friends and family
  • Sunday- Happy 7th Anniversary, Hubby's got a surprise planned! I can't wait!
Recipe of the week:
  • Salsa
What you need:
4 large tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped

  • 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro

  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 tablespoon lime juice

  • 1 tomatillo, diced (optional)

  • salt to taste

  • 1 jalapeno pepper, minced

  • Instructions:
In a medium-size mixing bowl, combine tomatoes, onion, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, tomatillo, and salt to taste. Mix well. Add 1/2 of the jalapeno pepper, and taste. If you desire your salsa with more of a kick, add the remaining 1/2 jalapeno. If you are satisfied with the salsa's heat, do not add the remaining jalapeno pepper. Cover the salsa, and chill until ready to serve.

    Positive Wife, Schmositive Wife...

Scripture of the day: "A worthy wife is her husband's joy and crown." -Proverbs 12:4, TLB

Think back to when you first got married. You had good intentions of being a caring, gentle, submissive, always loving, devoted, positive wife. Fast forward to now. Have you been all of those things? I will be the first to answer...absolutely not. I am ashamed to say, I have caused most of the arguments and disagreements in my marriage.

I have been stubborn, self centered, unwilling to change, argumentative, anything but gentle, critical, angry, and sometimes down right mean. I hate it, but it's true. I have read all of the books and taken classes at church. I have prayed and pleaded with God. I have apologized and tried hard to make a change. Sometimes I blame my hormones...ladies this is NOT an excuse.

So, I ask myself: "Why can't I just be a positive, God-fearing, gentle wife?" Here is my answer. Keep in mind this is my opinion: Because I don't want to. Plain and simple. I am a control freak (yeah I know, big surprise there...lol) so I feel as if I become what God has called me to be (submissive) then I lose the control I have over my life. This is a LIE that Satan has led me to believe. I feel as though when I am submissive to my husband I give up all rights to having a mind of my own.

I want to help my husband and be a good role model for my son's so that they choose a wife someday just like their mommy and they are proud of that. I want them to be able to say that I was a good wife for their daddy. The bible says: "A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies." -Proverbs 31:10

Ladies, it is time we become the gems that God has called us to be. Forget all of the feminism stuff you grew up learning and taking part in. Instead of a feminist state of mind (I am woman hear me roar), have a feminine state of mind (I want to please God and love and serve my husband). It's OK to be feminine and feel beautiful. God made you and He doesn't make any mistakes.

Be the wife God has called you to be. Pray, pray, pray for protection for your marriage. In the USA, the sanctity of marriage is being attacked. No marriage is safe. Divorce rates are the same for Christians and non-Christians alike. That is scary! Pray that God will unite you and your husband to His love.

Be a positive wife. Love your husband and respect his decisions. I do not agree with everything Hubby says, but he is the leader of our household and has been appointed by God. In order to be a great wife I think the first step is to be Christ-centered, not husband-centered. God will supply all of your needs. Your husband cannot do it all, nor should we expect them to.

Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 7:28b "But those who marry will face many troubles in this life..." See, he wasn't even married and knew there would be trouble. Marriage is hard work. There will be times of trouble and heartache and disagreements. But there will be even more times of joy and blessings and love if we put Christ at the center of our marriages and trust Him to lead us.

I know it is hard to be positive and happy all the time, but maybe if we gave it a little more effort and a lot more prayer we may see a difference. Not only in our marriages but in our hearts also. Pray about your attitude toward your husband and toward your children that it may reflect that of the Lord.

    God Bless,

    Kristy

P.S. By the way, this was totally for me. I needed this more than any of you...trust me!

    Air Conditioning

Scripture of the day: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." -Genesis 1:1

Today's post is short and sweet. I am thankful for my working air conditioner during these very hot days. It's over 100 degrees here today. I pray for those who have to work outside at all in this heat. Hubby works outside sometimes. I am so thankful that I can stay indoors on days like today.

    Homeschool

Scripture of the day: "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it." -Proverbs 22:6, ESV

This week is the homeschool convention in our area. I am excited because this is my first official convention I am attending. I went a couple of years ago for my nephew's graduation but did not get to look around or attend any seminars. I have made the decision to homeschool my children for now. Unless God leads Hubby and I in a different direction, this is what we plan to do. I had planned to go to college to be a teacher, but after the first semester a health problem stopped me from going back immediately.

God had other plans for me and that's OK. Homeschooling will give me the opportunity to be a "teacher" to my children. I really think God has to call you to do it. It is not for everyone and not everyone is able to do it (for different reasons). But I prayed about this decision a lot. I just don't feel led to send my children to public schools. I have many reasons for that (one is to teach my children the bible in every subject), I will explain in another post. I am looking forward to this convention and learning more about homeschooling.

    This week's menu:
    • Monday- Chicken and corn quesadillas (since we didn't have this last Saturday)
    • Tuesday- Shepherd's pie with salad
    • Wednesday- Leftovers
    • Thursday- Lemon-herb chicken with rice pilaf and peas
    • Friday- Fend for yourself (since I will be at the convention)
    • Saturday- Hawaiian chicken with grilled veggies
    • Sunday- Hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill with french fries
    Recipe of the week:
    • This and That BBQ sauce (taken from allrecipes.com)
    What you will need:
    1/2 cup ketchup
    1/2 cup brown sauce
    6 tablespoons lemon juice
    1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
    1/4 cup white vinegar
    1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
    2 tablespoons brown sugar
    1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

    Instructions:
In a medium saucepan over low heat, mix the ketchup, brown sauce, lemon juice, balsamic vinegar, white vinegar, and Worcestershire sauce. Blend in the brown sugar and dry mustard until dissolved. Simmer 10 minutes, until thickened. Remove from heat, and allow to cool before using on meats as desired.

    Activities for the week:
    • Monday thru Thursday- stay home with kids and work
    • Friday- Homeschool convention (Happy Birthday to my SIL)
    • Saturday- family time and possibly the farmers market
    • Sunday- church and possibly a picnic for my SIL's birthday
    Have a great week everyone!

    When I think about Jesus...

Scripture of the day: "Be still, and know that I am God..." -Psalm 46:10, KJV

    Daddy Dates

Have you ever heard of a daddy date? Are you curious as to what it is? I was very curious, so I read Daddy Dates by Greg Wright. I highly recommend this book for all men who have daughters. I got a lot out of this wonderfully written book. The front cover says "Four Daughters, One Clueless Dad, and His Quest to Win Their Hearts."

Greg Wright was almost thirty years old when he looked around at his life and realized he had four daughters that he didn't know anything about. He came up with the idea of taking each of them on individual daddy date to talk to them and get to know them. This book is about his journey of how he got where is is today. His concept is so amazing. I had heard of this before but never really knew what it was or what to expect. Daughters have a need for a caring, loving, affectionate father in their lives who really wants to know them. Greg got it right!

Here is a great quote from pages 33-34: "Here's what I have come to believe about parenting. For me, there are three equations that describe the balance between rules and relationships and yield predictable results: 1. Rules - Relationship = Rebellion, 2. Relationship - Rules = Destruction, 3. Relationship + Rules = Connection".

Greg also put a daddy dates pop quiz in the back of the book. It is very similar to a personality test. There are four results: Lion, Golden Retriever, Otter, and Beaver. I took the test myself and found out that I have a "Beaver" personality type. That means that I am analytical, too critical, controlling, precise, factual, and accurate to name a few. I thought it was pretty accurate in the results. There are also fifteen different daddy dates suggestions. Here are a few: the dinner date, the bookstore/library date, the fancy-schmancy date, the picnic date, and the great outdoors date.

He not only suggests you do daddy dates, but take your wife on dates as well. Wives need that time with their husbands. Afterall, all women are daughters.

    God Bless,

    Kristy

This book was given to me to review by BookSneeze. The opinions are my own.

    "Daddy"

Scripture of the day: "As a father has compassion on his children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear Him." -Psalm 103:13

I asked Bear what he was thankful for today and he said "DADDY!" So I then asked him why he was thankful for daddy and he told me all the things he likes to do with daddy. Here is the list (some of the words may be spelled wrong, but I was trying to pronounce them the way he does):
    1. Pway in my woom (play in my room)
    2. Pway me ouside (play with me outside)
    3. Pway in na water and get wet (the sprinkler)
    4. Water the darden with my yittle buckets (water the garden with my little buckets)
    5. Wash daddy cars and poppy cars
    6. Sing ABC's
    7. Watch "Tifford" (Clifford), Elmo, Nemo, George, Sid, Marfa Beaks (Martha Speaks)
    8. Build Towers
    9. Pway "fall down" (daddy falls on the ground and Bear jumps on him)
    10. Daddy's boo boo, me bit him ( he randomly thought of this b/c he bit daddy the other day for the first time ever)
    11. Wun fast, fast (Run)
    12. Wead (read) "Bown, Bear, Bown, Bear" (Brown Bear)
    13. Pway at the park (he then proceded to beg "Peeez, mommy go to park")
    14. Pway at the beach (then he said "told, brrrrrr!") with the "shells" and "Big wocks" (rocks)
That is about it. We obviously love doing things with him.

Daddy made this "house" for him

    Having fun with daddy's friends
