{Happy Homemaker Monday- 2012 #9}

Don't forget to visit Diary of a SAHM for more Happy Homemaker Monday and link up!

The Weather:::
Today is supposed to be 60 degrees with 50's-60's all week. It will feel colder though with the wind we have been having around here. A little rain on Saturday. Not too bad overall!

On My Reading Pile:::
A novel called Beauty for Ashes by Dorothy Love
Homeschooling books (just trying to refresh my memory on a few things)

On My TV:::
Right now...Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (haha)
I may watch a little Food Network today to motivate me to make something homemade. I want to make some homemade bread for dinner tonight. We'll see!

On The Menu For This Week:::
Monday- baked spaghetti pie with "homemade bread" (we never had spaghetti last week)
Tuesday- chicken nuggets and homemade French fries (with sea salt and pepper)
Wednesday- wacky breakfast day (omelets and toast with bacon)
Thursday- chili hash
Friday- pizza night (Hubby and I are going to have a competition to see who can make the best pizza)
Saturday- Hubby's choice (maybe BBQ on the grill depending on the weather)
Sunday- creamy lasagna roll-ups with salad and bread

On My To Do List:::
Today I have to fold all the laundry that got washed over the weekend, do the dishes left in the sink, post a couple of book reviews, homeschooling
Tomorrow I have a meeting at my church for MOPS.
This weekend there is a consignment sale at a local church (and I AM going!).

What I Am Sewing/Creating:::
I want to try to make something for my MIL for her birthday next week! I hope I come up with something!

In Homeschooling:::
I am still getting my classroom set up. I want to work on Bible work today with Bear and Ducky.

Looking Around The House:::
I see a bunch of books on the floor that the boys have pulled out to read. I feel the warmth of my dog laying next to me while typing up this blog post. I hear my boys playing (sometimes crying) together.

From The Camera:::

Something Fun To Share:::
Well, from the pictures above I am sure you came to the conclusion that I am expecting baby #3! We are so excited and can't wait to meet our little blessing! I am due in October. This is funny because my birthday is in the beginning of October (I turn 30) and Bear's birthday is a few days after that. I told Hubby last year that I wanted to have a baby when I turned 30...I just didn't think it would be a week after! LOL! God has a sense of humor!

On My Prayer List:::
Our little bundle of joy being healthy and for me to have a healthy pregnancy. My BIL is traveling for a couple of weeks and I pray he has safe travels and comes home soon. Many prayers for family and friends who are sick.

Bible Verse/Devotional:::
"Behold, children are a gift of the LORD,
The fruit of the womb is a reward.

Like arrows in the hand of a warrior,
So are the children of one’s youth.

How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;
They will not be ashamed
When they speak with their enemies in the gate."

-Psalm 127:3-5

God Bless,

Kristy

{Happy Homemaker Monday- 2012 #8}

*Don't forget to stop by Diary of a SAHM.*

We had a pretty good weekend here. I ran some errands with the boys on Saturday morning while Hubby stayed home and pulled up some carpet in the 4th bedroom (soon to be classroom). He got it all pulled up while I was gone and even started installing the pergo flooring (laminate wood). It is going to look so good. The carpet in there was industrial carpet (you know the kind that costs .50 cents a yard!). Not sure why the former owners put that cheap carpet in there...but now it's going to look a lot better. I am so excited about having a classroom I can hardly stand it. We are going to have one section of it for my desk with my computer and things on it. Then another corner of the room will be for my sewing machine and craft supplies as well as a few shelves for my "wrapping" supplies. It is a large room so the rest of the room will be for the kids classroom. I am going to purchase a used half-moon shaped table and a couple of chairs. My dad gave us a huge dry erase board to put on the wall. He also gave us a bunch of furniture from an office he is remodeling (they gave him permission to give it to us). We got a desk, drafting table, several chairs, book shelves, etc.

On the other little corner of the room will be the "reading area". Hubby is going to put shelves on the wall. I will use the upper shelves for all of my homeschooling resources and the lower part for books for the kids to read. I have baskets already to organize the books into categories that they can read. Next to that we will be getting a couple of bean bag chairs and a fluffy rug for relaxing while reading. Can you tell I am super excited!? I will do a whole blog post about it when it is finished.

The Weather:::
It is very cold today. It even snowed last night (but not much). It is supposed to be almost 70 degrees by Thursday (so we will all be sick). Ha!

On My Reading Pile:::
I am reading a wonderful book called The Guardian Duke for review. I have about 4-5 more books due for review in the next couple of weeks. I better get cracking! I love to read!

On My TV:::

Not much these days. We don't have very many cable channels and we got rid of Netflix (b/c it never worked with out Wii). I think I will watch The Mighty Macs (another review item!).

On The Menu This Week:::
Monday- pot roast with potatoes, carrots, celery, and onions along with Portuguese Milk Rolls (Thanks Sandra!)
Tuesday- Chicken enchiladas with Mexican rice
Wednesday- Wacky breakfast night
Thursday- spaghetti with garlic toast
Friday- leftovers
Saturday- pizza
Sunday- Salisbury steaks, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, biscuits

On My To Do List:::
Fold and put away laundry
Homeschooling (work in preschool notebook)
Clean kitchen
Mop kitchen floor
Purchase a gift for my dad's 50th birthday (in March)

What I am Sewing/Creating:::
Honestly, I haven't had much time lately to work on anything. I know...it's sad. With Hubby working on my classroom I have been left to entertain the kids (although he let's them help sometimes). I want to practice crocheting and work on some more yo-yo's to make a small quilt.

In Homeschooling:::
Today we will be working out of Bear's preschool notebook I made for him. It has ABC's, 123's, colors, shapes, seasons, etc.

Looking Around The House:::
I see some construction going on in the "classroom". I also see my little Bear playing quietly in the floor by himself while Ducky is still asleep. I hear Jake and the Neverland Pirates on the TV (he isn't watching it but just listening).

From The Camera:::

These pics were taken on Valentine's Day. They are
eating the Eclair cake I made. What a mess! LOL!

Something Fun To Share:::
We got snow last night and it is so beautiful outside.

On My Prayer List:::
A friend of mine is having a baby today (a boy). Her water broke this morning! Yay!
Also, Hubby's parents are going to be traveling back home this week. They are traveling across the country. I pray for safe travels for them.

Bible Verse/ Devotional:::
I started reading the book of James this morning in the Bible. This is the verse that stuck in my heart:

"My Brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing." -James 1:2-4

{The Golden Rule}

I know you have heard this old saying. If not, well there is a first time for everything. I grew up hearing this from vairous people in my life. I grew up in a home, however, that was very loud (with 3 brothers and 2 sisters), opinionated, and strict. I also grew up in a home that was split up. I have 1 step brother, 1 half sister, 1 step sister (but my mom adopted her), and 2 half brothers. When Hubby and I were dating he was so confused. I would just say they are all my brothers and sisters (because they were and still are). Needless to say, there was a lot of arguing and shouting amongst us siblings. Not all siblings have this situation, but we did. It wasn't always like this, but there were crazy moments. My poor parents had to listen to it all.

We really had to treat each other the way we wanted them to treat us. I have so many fond memories of my siblings. I was 14 when my twin brothers were born and remember thinking they were the cutest babies I had ever seen. Then, my own children were born and blew them out of the water. But, we mommy's feel that way about our own children. I love my brothers and sisters dearly. I have a huge support system. I always feel sorry for someone who tells me they are an only child or they only have 1 sibling. My husband has one sister. She is amazing, but there is an age difference between them. They didn't grow up together because she was older than him. Plus, the gender difference. But, no matter what they have each other's back. They share a faith that is unshakeable. I love having my family and knowing they have my back.

When I got married I inherited even more family. They are great people. God knew I needed them because they got Hubby and I to go back to church together and we eventually all got baptized together. It was so wonderful.

I have children of my own now. My two boys are close in age and best friends. They play all day together and giggle and I LOVE it! I am trying to instill in them the "Golden Rule". We have many other rules but this one is pretty important. If Bear isn't sharing his toys or snack with Ducky I let him know that it is wrong. I ask him what he would do if Ducky didn't share with him. Bear usually says he would be sad. I then say to him, how do you think Ducky feels right now when you aren't sharing? It makes him think about his actions and 9 times out of 10 he will share. Bear is pretty "strong-willed" so sometimes it takes a stern talking to and perhaps some consequences, but he is getting better. Ducky sees his behavior and copies everything Bear does. Even the bad stuff. But, Ducky has a different personality. He is always trying to be fair. If Ducky gets a "prize" for good behavior, he immediately asks for a "prize" for his big brother. He even gets upset if I tell him no. He has such a big heart. Bear has started doing the same thing as he sees Ducky sharing more.

I truly believe that we should treat everyone the way we want to be treated. I don't know a single person who wants to be judged, neglected, yelled at, scrutinized, or any other negative behavior. I want to be loved, respected, treated with kindness, and taken care of. I hope that is how people see me. I am a care-giver at heart. I love to love people. I can be opinionated and harsh sometimes. But, I am a work in progress. I always say that when I am perfect I won't be needed here on earth anymore and I will be in Heaven. I mess up all the time and will continue to do so until the day I die. But, I am trying to have more of the "fruits of the spirit" in my personality. If you don't know what those are, here is the verse to go with it:

I have found that if you treat others with the "fruits of the spirit", you will recieve the same treatment. This is my goal for my children everyday. It doesn't happen all the time, but it is a goal. I pray everyday for my children to have good attitudes and a lot of that depends on my attitude for that day. I have to treat my children with the same "Golden Rule". If I yell and scream at them all day, I can expect nothing less from them. So, my point is treat others how you want to be treated everyday no matter what.

Kristy

{Friday Favorites}

Don't forget to visit Diary of a SAHM.

Today I am going to share with you my favorite movie. It is a silly, funny, love story.

I know you have heard of it! I think it is so cute. I had never seen it before and Hubby introduced me to it a few years ago and I watch it A LOT! Haha!

Another reason I like the movie...Cary Elwes (he plays the main male character Westley) looks kinda like my Hubby!

Well, I think they look alike anyway. My Hubby is so HOT! There you have it. What is your favorite movie?

God Bless,

Kristy

{Happy Homemaker Monday- 2012 #7}

Another weekend has come and gone. I had a great one! I got a new haircut and got highlights too. I feel like a new woman. LOL! I only get my hair cut once a year, so when I get it done it really means a lot to me. I got about 5 inches cut off. On Sunday, we went to church and had a great time as well. The sermon was soooo good. After church, we got a babysitter (she is so awesome!) and Hubby and I went to a movie. We saw The Vow...it was really good! Then we had soup and sandwiches at Panera Bread. Yum! I love that place. That was our Valentine's Day date since we don't do anything on the actual day. It is usually too costly and time consuming. I hope you had a great weekend too!

The Weather:::
It is REALLY cold outside today. We had a little snow over the weekend. There is still some on the ground today. It is icy cold. Brrr!

On My Reading Pile:::
I just got a new book to review. It is a medieval times romance (faith-based, of course). I am excited to read it. I also got Real Marriage by Pastor Mark Driscoll and his wife from my Hubby. It is good so far.

On My TV:::
Hubby and I will be watching a little TV tonight after the kiddos go to bed. Other than that, the kids will watch Disney Jr. or PBS on and off today.

On The Menu For This Week:::
Monday- "clean out the fridge  night" (eat all leftovers or throw them out)
Tuesday- Sweet and sour chicken with fried rice (homemade by me for Hubby)
Wednesday- Wacky Breakfast night
Thursday- Turkey and cheese wraps with veggies and fruit on the side
Friday- Pizza night
Saturday- lasagna with breadsticks
Sunday- Roast beef, potatoes, carrots, and homemade biscuits

On My To Do List:::
I have to take Ducky to the Dr. today (it is his 18 month check-up). We have to go to the Dollar store to get a few supplies for crafts and then home for naps. I do have laundry and dishes to do as well.

What I am Sewing/Creating:::
Still practicing my crocheting. I am going to look up some youtube videos today. I want to get this down so I can move on to actually making something...LOL!

In Homeschooling:::
We will be working on Reading Eggs again this week. I am also going to be doing some Bible verses with Bear about kindness (he needs a little reminder) and also about obedience.

Looking Around The House:::
There is a basket of laundry waiting to be folded and some towels in the dryer. There is a Thomas the tank engine foam track all over the floor. I also see a little white dog cuddled up in my quilt (she is cold b/c she is a chihuahua).

From The Camera:::

Something Fun To Share:::
Valentine's Day is tomorrow and the kids and I will be making Daddy some cards today with the supplies I am getting from the Dollar store later.

On My Prayer List:::
A few friends going through hard times right now. My in-laws traveling across the country.

Bible Verse/Devotional:::

"So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight." -2 Corinthians 5:6-7

{Friday Favorites}

Yay! It's Friday! You know what that means...Friday Favorites. This week is one of my ALL time favorite things in the world. I started collecting angel figurines a few years ago (actually more like 10 years ago). I started with one and now I have many. The picture of the one I am going to show you is the one Hubby gave me when I had Ducky. It is very special to me.

Isn't she beautiful? I just love these angels. They are actually called Seraphim Angels. I will add more pics of them this weekend. Have a great one!

God Bless,

{Seasons Of Life}

I have been thinking a lot about my home, my family, and my faith. I want to spend time on each. I want to spend more time organizing and cleaning my house. I want it to be a haven for my family and be welcoming to all who enter. I want to spend more quality time with my family. They are so precious to me and I want them to know that I love them very much. I want to spend more time reading my Bible and attending Bible studies. My faith is what keeps me going each day. If I didn't have God in my life, I really don't know where I would be.

Each of us is going through a different season in our lives. Right now, I am currently in the "raising all little ones" stage. They need me constantly and can't eat, drink, or sleep without me being there. I love every minute of it. But, that means that my home is put on the back burner. There are cobwebs everywhere, dishes in the sink, and the laundry pile, well, it is enormous! My MIL gave me a picture to hang on my wall and it says "Cleaning and scrubbing can wait til tomorrow, for babies grow up we've learned to our sorrow. So quiet down cobwebs, dust go to sleep, I'm rocking my baby and babies don't keep." I just love it. It puts my life into perspective. Instead of fretting every minute of every day about the things I don't get done, I am praising God for the opportunity to spend time with my children. I get to spend my time with two of the most awesome little boys in the world. My home may not look like a museum, but I do have children that fill it with love, laughter, and fun. I can't imagine not having them in my life. What a blessing!

You may be going through a different season. Maybe you don't have children yet with your husband. When I was going through this stage, my house was usually very clean. I had a job outside of the home, but I didn't have little hands taking out all the toys, or dishes piling up. In that season of my life I also had more time with the Lord. I remember reading my Bible more because I actually had down time. Nowadays, if I have a free moment I spend it cleaning or reading a book to my children.

Another season in life is when your children are old enough to take care of themselves. They aren't out on their own yet, but they don't need you to get their sippy cups or a snack. There are no diapers to change or toys to pick up (because, hopefully, they can do it on their own). They don't need us as much anymore. I have a love-hate relationship thinking about this stage in life. On one hand, I look forward to not changing diapers and catering to their every need. But on the other hand, they will be so independent. They won't NEED me like I need them. It is bittersweet when you think about it. I think for now I will just enjoy the "little years".

My point is, my house may not be perfect and my family is busy and changing daily, but I enjoy this season of my life. I don't want to stress out about all the little details of cleaning and lose an opportunity to laugh with my babies. I don't want to be so busy making my house perfect and forget to play with my children. They were given to my Hubby and I as a blessing not a burden.

"Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it."
-Proverbs 22:6

"All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children."
-Isaiah 54: 13

"Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate."
-Psalm 127:3-5

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
-James 1:17

So, enjoy your babies "cause babies don't keep". They are going to grow up one day and have a family of their own. Then, you enter into a new season of life: being a grandparent. I heard this saying one time and I sure hope it's not true because I only have boys: "A son is a son til he takes a wife, a daughter is a daughter for the rest of her life...". That just makes me sad, but I know they have to "leave" us and "cleave" to their spouse. What season of life are you in?
God Bless,

Kristy

{Happy Homemaker Monday- 2012 #6}

Well, another weekend has come and gone. I hope your's was a good as mine. We had my hubby at home all weekend (which hasn't been happening very often). We just relaxed and had a good time as a family enjoying each other. We watched the Super Bowl on Sunday night. That's about it.

The Weather:::
It is VERY cold here today. There was ice on Hubby's car this morning and he had to start his car for a few minutes to defrost the windshield. It is supposed to get up to 48 or 50 degrees. We will see.

On My Reading Pile:::
A new book review due on Friday. It is a children's book called Cooper and Me and the Military. I love these books. They are adorable. Not much for me this week.

On My TV:::
Not too much today. The kids will watch their normal Sesame Street and Dora. I will be busy cleaning and doing laundry.

On The Menu For This Week:::
Monday- chicken alfredo with homemade French bread
Tuesday- leftovers
Wednesday- wacky breakfast
Thursday- tacos and Mexican rice
Friday- Pizza night
Saturday- chicken and rice casserole with salad and biscuits
Sunday- chicken noodle soup with crusty bread

On My To Do List:::
Fold and put away laundry
put in a load of dishes
clean kitchen
organize toys

What I Am Sewing/Creating:::
I am still practicing my crochet work. I want to make a cuddle blanket (if I can master this skill). I am also making more yo-yo's. They are so fun and cute!

In Homeschooling:::
We have been doing Reading Eggs everyday with Bear. We got a free 5 week trial and he now recognizes the letter's "s" and "m". He already knows a few others but he didn't know these two.

Looking Around The House:::
I see things that need to get done, but I also see a little boy playing with his train set. I see sweet love in his eyes and a little cutie pie Ducky who smiles all the time.

From The Camera:::

I had to share this one again. Isn't she cute!?

Something Fun To Share:::
I've got nothing this morning. Still tired from getting minimal sleep. Maybe something fun will happen today :)

On My Prayer List:::
My sister and her new baby. The baby has been in the hospital since last night. My sister couldn't wake her up. Her bilirubin levels have escalated over the past few days. Please pray for her. She is having some tests run now.

Bible Verse/Devotional:::

"The LORD sustains them on their sickbed and restores them from their bed of illness." -Psalm 41:3
