Audrey Bunny is the newest book by Angie Smith and illustrated by Breezy Brookshire. Angie Smith is married to the lead singer of the music group Selah. She has written a few other books but this one is by far the cutest. The children's book comes with a Parent Connection section as well that aides parents in asking meaningful questions when you are done reading the book to your little one. There are references to scripture as well and that is what I really adored about this sweet book.
While reading it to my two older boys, Bear (5) and Ducky (3), I really felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me about image. Poor Audrey (the Bunny in the book) has a smudge and thinks that no one will love her. Caroline comes along and loves her because she is imperfect. It is such a reflection of the love that Christ has for us, his children. We talked about things we don't like about ourselves. We also talked about how God loves us despite our imperfections. I want my boys to grow up and have a very good self image. I did not have a good self image until I had been married for a few years. Finally, one day it clicked. God thinks I am beauitful, even though I am far from perfect. He made me in His image and God doesn't make junk.
This book was so sweet. I highly recommend it to anyone with little ones in their home. I am so glad I get to add it to my collection of books. Since I homeschool I take collecting books very seriously. I am also very picky about which books I keep. I am definitely keeping this one.
Right now, Audrey Bunny is number one on Amazon.com for Christian children's books. How awesome is that!? Please check it out for yourself and buy it as a Christmas present for a little one in your life. They will love it!
