Mary Engelbreit has got to be one of my favorite artists and authors. I have been collecting her books since I changed my name to Jensen (as in I got married). LOL! My MIL has collected them for years and so graciously gave me one of Mary Engelbreit's books a long time ago. After that day I have been gathering them for myself. That's why I was ecstatic when I saw that she was coming out with a new book and I get to review it. It is called The Blessing Of Friendship and let me tell you it is a blessing to me. The pictures are the sweetest and the quotes and verses from the bible are amazing.
Here is a description of the book:
"The Blessings of Friendship, created by New York Times bestselling author and artist Mary Engelbreit, is a playful and poignant treasury of poetry, Bible verses, and quotes that celebrate the joy of friendship. Children will learn from timeless sayings and poems what it means to be a friend - helping, encouraging, listening, sharing with, and loving one another. Colorful and whimsical illustrations bring these words to life, as children learn the value of friendship. Verses from the Bible give us instruction on putting others above ourselves, loving each other, and being kind to one another. This book will make you smile with each turn of the page, remembering old friends and new friends alike."
I am truly going to enjoy having this book to look at when I need to smile. And, it comes in one of my favorite colors...red! Also, my MIL's favorite color. I may buy her one for Christmas...ooops! Let the cat out of the bag. Pick up a copy for yourself if you are a fan of Mary Engelbreit's. If you are not a fan or don't know who she is please go get a copy anyway. You will become a fan very quickly. She makes you feel like times are more simple and sweet.

Do you like cookies? I LOVE cookies! I love desserts in general. I also love pre-made desserts such as Twinkies, Oreos, and ice cream sandwiches. I just hate buying them when they are so processed. I usually stay away from these yummy treats because of the preservatives in them. Well, I have a solution. Treat Yourself by Jennifer Steinhauer is a wonderful book filled with recipes for some of your favorite classics. I love to bake so this book appealed to me right away. Then, I found it you could make homemade Thin Mints, Nutter Butters, and Honey Buns. I was sold!
I chose to make one recipe for my review though I plan to keep this book handy. The recipe I chose is for the classic Chips Ahoy chocolate chip cookies. I figured that my kids would love to help me with this task.
As you can see they had a blast helping me. I loved how easy the recipes were to follow. You can read one chapter HERE. You can read more about Jennifer Steinhauer HERE. I truly feel that there are some wonderful treats yet to be made by me and my family (especially the homemade graham crackers and nilla wafers).
Here are some pics of what I made:
As you can see they turned out okay. The taste was great but they didn't flatten out. I had all fresh ingredients so I am not sure what went wrong. I will make them again and see if maybe it was just the humidity of the day. They were all devoured! Hubby loved them and my three boys asked every second if they could have some.
I hope you get a chance to buy a copy of this wonderful book Treat Yourself.

Starting on Monday I will be employed. I will be babysitting two sweet little children. A boy who is 4 and a little girl who is 3. I babysat them a couple of weeks ago for a day to do a trial run and it went great. They are so precious.
I am a little nervous to start this new adventure but I am confident that it will bless me so much. I will also be starting school with the boys in September. I have a new curriculum and I am pumped to get started. I just wanted to let my readers know about the things going on in the Jensen household.
Both Bear (5) and Ducky (4) just attended Vacation Bible School. They learned some new bible verses and songs. They didn't move a muscle or sing one note during their final performance for us parents. But, they were adorable! Before that, Ducky had his 4th birthday. Many friends and family came to our house to celebrate with us. There were gummy worm "dirt" cupcakes, a pinata, and lots of buggy presents. It was a "bug themed" party. You know...boys and bugs go hand in hand.
I am so thankful for all of the people who joined us on that special day. I love birthdays. They bring life to a house. They are the celebration of a person that means a lot. Life is so precious (and seems very short at times). Celebrating a person's birth once a year is the least I can do.
We have also been finishing the bathroom remodel. It has been going on for over a year. We can only do things when we get the funding. It has been a slow process but my husband has worked so hard. There are some final touches and then I will post some pics for you. It is a dramatic difference. It is only one of three bathrooms in our house. Our next project is the master bathroom. It has the ugliest terra cotta style tiles. Blek! We are going to reconfigure the set up and get new tiles.
We have been enjoying our summer. We have hit the beach several times, gone to the local amusement park, gone on picnics and to the pool. My boys spend a lot of time outside. The love to get dirty and and jump on the trampoline. Summers are for fun. I think we may take the boys camping in the fall. We have a KOA campground near here that has groupons. I am going to be on the lookout!
I hope you all have had a great summer so far.

Happy Monday everyone! I pray that you had a very good weekend. Ours was filled with family time and a birthday. Ducky (my middle son) turned 4 on Sunday. We had a party for him complete with a pinata, gummy worm cupcakes, and presents. He had a wonderful time and is so happy that he is 4 now. We took him to IHOP on Saturday night for an early birthday dinner. He loved the pancakes!
I had a bowl of strawberry O's from Trader Joes...yum!
