Respect. All men want it. Even little boys. Since I have three sons of my own, I decided to review Emerson Eggerichs' (author of the popular book Love & Respect) new book Mother & Son-The Respect Effect. Wow, am I glad I was chosen for this one!
My husband and I attended a class at our old church and it happened to be the Love & Respect book that they were studying. It changed our marriage so much. We both learned so much about what the other needs and craves. It isn't as complicated as we make it. Women want to feel loved and men want to feel respected. It is biblical.
The mother and son relationship is very unique. A mother wants to love her children and provide a safe environment for them. A son wants to protect, conquer, explore, be physical (wrestle), and so on. That's why this book is needed. Women and men (boys) are totally different and need some guidance sometimes.
So, Mother & Son goes along the same premise. Sons, no matter how old or young, need to feel respected by their mothers. It is so hard to respect a child when they are mouthing off at you or disobedient. But, Dr. Eggerichs gives such sound, biblical advice that actually works. His philosophy is simple. Show your son respect, even in the heat of the moment when you are so angry you could scream, and your son will do just about anything you ask of him.
I didn't believe it at first. I started doing some of the things he says to do in his book and as if by magic my sons were more compliant and sweet. Their mannerisms changed entirely and they actually wanted to do more around the house. They also didn't fight as much with each other...which is a totally different story.
You see, boys know their mama's love them. We show love very easily. We kiss boo-boo's, help them with their school work with patience, tuck them into bed at night, read them stories, and so on. But, respecting a boy is not as easy as it sounds. It takes effort. With this new book, it will make your life, as a mother, so much easier.
Some of the things Dr. Eggerichs discusses in this book are:
- What Respect Looks Like to Boys
- How to Start Respecting Your Son
- Seeing That The Boy Will One Day Be A Man
- Guiding Your Son Through His Boyhood
- Mommy Issues
- And So Much More!
